It is that time of year. Classes are winding down for the summer. Happily at the same time we are gearing up for Summer18 events, so there is no need for you to be lonely or bored in July and August. We are also looking ahead to September with exciting new opportunities for you to join or rejoin various activities.

This is an extract from Karen’s Ezine 4th June just to emphasise that you need to read carefully and act now.

Summer18 Workshops: There’s a diary in the office along with a list of the courses we will be running on the hall table, please feel free to take one and let us know quickly if you would like to book on any of them.  Just call into the office at Nelson Street, or phone or email. The 2 Calligraphy courses are full but a third has been arranged for Thursday 26 July. If you want to join please be quick – also we are able to offer a set of calligraphy pens with ink refills at wholesale price of £12 so please do let the office know about this too.

These are NOT real carnations! They are made from Cold Porcelain. There is a Cold Porcelain workshop planned as part of Summer 18. This skill can be used for cake decorating sugar craft as well as the non-edible version.

Remember:  We have been contacted by the British Red Cross who are offering us two-hour first aid courses – we have requested four sessions, as there is a maximum number on each one.  These dates are Monday 6 August and Friday 17 August.  Morning session will be 11.00-1.00 and repeated 2.00-4.00.  So quite a choice and hope this will be well attended.  There are no strings attached – it is simply a course which will cover about 8 emergency situations – you just never know when they may be needed.  These are free events, but we would like to donate to the provider by collecting £2.00/person.  Again, please put your name in the Summer18 diary in the office or email us.

Convenors required: The Walking Group currently have no convenor and it’s important for communications that one is put in place.  The group works well now with members arranging the walks, so that would continue, but there is the need for one person to take overall management.

The Gadabout Group is currently in suspension as there is nobody to arrange the very interesting trips that Harry McClintock used to do.  There’s usually only 6-7 outings a year and many members have asked if it will be restarting.  The answer currently is no because there’s no convenor to arrange the trips.  So someone please step up and offer your organisational skills to this interesting group. Even if anyone wants to arrange just one or two outings, it would be great as this is greatly missed!

Tai Chi: Three sessions are open now for enrolment in September.  Please contact Teresa sec@eau3a.org.uk   It’s still £25 for a session of ten weeks.  Tuesday 10.00am, Thursday 2.00 and 3.15 (if sufficient enrolment) Group Page

Yoga: new session starting on Monday 11 June 3.00.  £25 for 8 week session.  There are a few kits available but if you have your own mat and bolster then do bring them along. Tomek (the registered tutor) is happy to show you how to do Yoga using a chair (for those with a slight mobility difficulty). Group Page

Zumba continues each Thursday morning 9.30-10.30 and for this to continue to be offered we need to get a few more of you moving on the floor.  Please just turn up and wear something loose and comfy.  It’s great fun and a super way to get and keep fit.

Italian Beginners: a new session has just started last week so it isn’t too late to join – this shorter session will finish on 10 July but will restart in September.  £25 per 8 week session. Tuesday mornings 9.30 Group Page

Spanish Beginners: due to popular demand we have been asked if we can run a course for complete beginners starting in September. This can be arranged but we will require a minimum enrolment, so please register your interest, with the office or by emailing Teresa sec@eau3a.org.uk Group Page
