Gardening Group MAY  meeting.

We met on  Monday the 22nd of May to exchange all the seedlings from our planting in mid-March.

The variety and amount of plants available   was fantastic and it was so awarding to see the fruits of our planting.

We were joined on this occasion by a group of gardeners from Hollywood, , the first time we have had a joint meeting with another U3A gardening group.

We gave them a very warm East Antrim welcome, and every single member of our group contributed.

We turned the Garden Room into a festive venue with beautifully decorated tables, a  large welcome banner, homemade scones and shortbread with all the trimmings…

The seedlings available covered several large tables and the ground underneath, and varied from herbaceous to indoor plants and some vegetables.

I think it’s fair to say that  are visitors were very impressed with our produce since their  garden group   don’t do any hands on gardening as such

We are very lucky in East Antrim in that we have our own venue( thanks to one of our founder members, the late Margaret FRANKLIN) and so can use the hall as we wish.

In contrast the Hollywood gardening group visit open gardens and enjoy speakers on different specialities subjects.

It was useful to gain some information from them  on this, and no doubt we may use  the speakers in our future winter programmes.

It was a great morning full of laughter and fun, and each our visitors left with a beautifully made Posey and as   many seedlings as they could carry.

We look forward to a continued connection with this group of Gardeners and a sharing of ideas.

Our final meeting of this year will be a guided tour  by Cherri Townsend of her beautiful garden in island Magee, with a picnic to follow probably ,amongst the Roses.
