Causeway Short and Long Walks

Short Walk – Portballintrae-Causeway- approx 3 miles

Long Walk – Portballintrae- Causeway- Bushmills – approx  6 miles

Public Transport, train

Whitehead 8.45, Carrickfergus 8.54, Greenisland 9.03, Jordanstown 9.06, Whiteabbey 9.10, arriving Yorkgate 9.16. Change for train to Coleraine 

Departs Yorkgate 9.24, Mosley West 9.33, arrives Coleraine 10.40

Take bus 172 – Causeway Rambler – Departs Coleraine 10.50, arrives Portballintrae 11.10

By Car – There is a fee car park opposite Bushmills Inn. Take the pathway through the Inn towards the Heritage Railway and pick up Bus 172 at 11.07 at Tramways Drive to Portballintrae .

Return Journey

Bus 402/402a/172 from The Nook to Bushmills or Coleraine are usually 2 and 32 minutes past each hour.

Bus 402 departs Bushmills War Memorial 14.37/15.37 arriving Coleraine 15.10/16.11

Take train from Coleraine 15.19/16.19 arriving Lanyon Place 17.39. Change for Carrickfergus train 16.55/17.55.

Walk Details – A varied walk with some inclines. Both walks start in Portballintrae and will be along the coastal path and boardwalks to the railway line. There is a slight incline in this pathway up to the Causeway . Those on the short walk can get the bus from outside The Nook for return journey. The longer walk will continue from behind the Causeway Hotel over the Runkerry Headland. Paths can be narrow and rough in places. We descend to the beach and then join the railway tracks via the golf course to Bushmills.

Lunch – Please bring a picnic to have by the sea (hopefully in the sunshine) or there are various places available at the Causeway/Bushmills.

Toilets are available at Coleraine, Portballintrae , Causeway(only one), and Bushmills.
