Long Walk – Portadown to Scarva

LONG WALK: – total 7.5 miles. The walk will take about 3.25 hours.

MEETING POINT/TIME: Portadown Railway Station at 10.57 am.

Outward Journey:

Train – Dep Whitehead 9.15 am, dep Carrickfergus 9.24 am, dep Jordanstown 9.36 am, arr Lanyon Place 9.51 am.

Change to Portadown line.

Train – Dep Lanyon Place 9.59 am, arr Portadown 10.57 am.

Return Journey:

Bus – Dep Scarva 4.16 pm, arr Portadown 4.45 pm.

Train – Dep Portadown 5.05 pm, train terminates at Gt Victoria St 5.38 pm.

Change to Larne line.

Train – Dep Gt Victoria St 5.45 pm, arr Jordanstown 6.09 pm, arr Carrickfergus 6.20 pm, train terminates at Whitehead 6.30 pm.

THE WALK:

We will walk from Portadown railway station through the town centre (quarter of a mile), stopping for a short coffee break on the way. We will join the shared pedestrian/cycle path alongside the section of the Newry Canal which runs from Portadown to Scarva (7 miles) adjacent to the Upper Bann River. The walk is flat and well surfaced. On our return journey, we will alight from the bus and walk (quarter of a mile) to Portadown railway station.

LUNCH:

We will have a late lunch at around 2.45 pm at Sinton’s Restaurant in Scarva, which is situated beside the end of the walk and near the bus stop. Note that there are toilets at the railway stations and in the restaurants, but none along the walkway.
