This walking group has been formed to accommodate those who want a short walk conducted at a leisurely pace and are more interested in fresh air and companionship than clocking up miles. Walks normally last approximately 1 hour/ 1 hour and a quarter.
All are welcome BUT It is imperative that you complete a form before you attend a walk for the first time, otherwise you will not be able to participate. Please contact Teresa for details.
Please Note that walks may be cancelled during inclement weather.
STROLLERS SCHEDULE
5th February 2025 to 26th March 2025
Wednesday 5th February: Walk in Victoria Park, Belfast.
Transport: Leaving Carrickfergus on the 9.54 am train to Lanyon Place, we will take the Glider G1 to Holywood Arches. Gliders run every 7-8 minutes. We will return by Glider to Lanyon Place. Trains run as far as Whitehead at 25 minutes past the hour and 5 minutes to the hour. Refreshments are available at local cafes on the Newtownards Road.
Walk details – Starting from C S Lewis Square we will walk to Victoria Park, round the loop in the park and back to C S Lewis Square. This should take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.
Thursday 13th February: Whitehead 01
Meet at Carrickfergus Railway Station Platform 2.
We will take the 9.50 am train, arriving Whitehead 10.00 am
Walk starts promptly at 10.00 am from Whitehead Station. Alternatively, you can meet at Whitehead station at 10.00 am or at Blackhead car park at 10.10/ 10.15 am.
Walk details – This is a linear walk. From Whitehead train station, we will walk along the seafront to Blackhead Path, continuing along the path to the caves and then return to the town.
Tuesday 18th February: Carrick 02
Meet at Carrickfergus Railway Station. Train arrives from Belfast direction at 1.50 pm.
Train arrives from Larne direction at 1:54 pm. Walk starts promptly at 2.00 pm.
Walk details – Starting from Carrickfergus train station, we will walk past the Mill Ponds, through Shaftesbury Park, and Marine Gardens to Fisherman’s Quay and return to Carrickfergus town centre.
Wednesday 26th February: Walk in Botanic Gardens, Belfast
Transport: we will take the 9.54 am train from Carrickfergus to Botanic station.
Walk details – From the station we will walk up Botanic Avenue to and around Botanic Gardens. We may take in the Tropical Ravine and/ or the Palm House. There is a coffee shop in the museum and plenty of coffee shops in Botanic Avenue. Return trains are every 30 minutes at 10 to the hour and 20 past the hour. Please check that the train goes to your stop.
Wednesday 5th March: Loughshore
Transport: We will take the 10.25 am. Bus leaving Joymount, Carrickfergus, arriving Whiteabbey Green car park about 10.48 am.
Walk starts promptly at 11.00 am from the Whiteabbey Green car park.
Walk details – From the car Park, we join the path along the Lough Shore. This is a linear walk on level well-made paths.
Thursday 13th March: Ballyclare
Public transport is not feasible for this walk. I suggest car sharing where possible.
Meet in the car park of Six Mile Leisure Centre at 10.20 am. Walk starts at 10.30 am. We will walk from the Leisure Centre car park through the Six Mile Park on well-made paths and into Ballyclare.
Tuesday 18th March: Whitehead 02 – Beach Road Nature Reserve
We will take the 1.50 pm train, arriving Whitehead 2.00 pm. Alternatively, you can meet at Whitehead station at 2.00 pm.
Walk starts promptly at 2.00 pm from Whitehead Station to Beach Road Nature Reserve and back into Whitehead.
Wednesday 26th March: Holywood
Transport: we will take the 9.54 train from Carrickfergus to Lanyon Place, arriving at 10.21, then the 10.42 train to Holywood.
Walk details: This is a walk from Holywood station along the coastal path as far as Seapark and back into Holywood. Return trains to Lanyon Place are at 16 and 46 minutes past the hour. Return trains from Lanyon Place to Carrickfergus are at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour. Please check that the train goes to your stop.
