Boccia is a precision ball sport related to bowls. It was designed originally to be played by people with cerebral palsy but is now played by people with disabilities affecting motor skills.
The aim of the game is to throw leather balls, coloured red and blue, as close to the white target ball or jack as it is termed. Two teams of players are given red or blue balls. The jack is thrown first then the members take it in turn to throw their ball to get closest to the jack or to push an opposition’s ball out of the way. The team with their ball closest to the jack is the winner.
In competitive games the balls are measured to the proximity to the jack to confirm the winner but ours will be by sight only.
