Two Bridges Walk – Friday 4th October

Long Walk 4th October 2024 – Two Bridges, Derry/Londonderry

 Approx. 6 miles (8 miles if the Foyle Bridge is crossed)

Train times: – Whitehead 8.45am; Carrickfergus 8.54am; Greenisland 9.03am; change at York Street for the 9.24am train to Derry/Londonderry which calls at Mossley West at 9.33am. Arrival time at our destination is 11.22am and the walk starts at 11.30am from the new Waterside Railway Station which has a small café and toilets. There is also a Café and toilets in St Colomb’s park part way along the walk.

The walk is on a level tarmac path along the Waterside shore of Lough Foyle to the Foyle Bridge. WE WILL NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE IF THE WEATHER IS INCLEMENT but after a short rest return along the waterside pathway to the café in St Colomb’s park for refreshments (optional, closes at 3.00pm) The walk will then continue to the Peace bridge and on to the Waterside railway station where the walk will finish.

IF we cross the Foyle Bridge the walk will continue along the shoreline to the City Centre, stopping for lunch (optional) (or bring a picnic) before continuing to the Peace Bridge crossing over to the Waterside Railway Station where the walk will finish.

Walkers can decide for themselves whether to cross the Foyle Bridge or not or they can turn back at any time, but they MUST inform the walk leader they are doing so. They should also inform the leader when they are safely in the Waterside railway station.

After the walk People may, if they wish, visit the city to shop, sight see or eat etc. before returning to the Waterside Railway Station for the journey home. A train leaves every hour at 38 minutes past the hour.
