——————–  Report  ——————–

On Friday the 11th January the East Antrim U3A Walking Group met at Lanyon Station and after a short delay waiting for some members who got a later train, we headed off to Moira Station. There we met up with another member and that made a total of 20 walkers.

The walk which goes to Aghalee begins at the station car park and goes under the railway line to the Broad Water path alongside the canal.  It was a good day for walking as the weather was mild and dry and there were lots of ducks, waterfowl and swans to be seen as well as trees, shrubs and grasses.  In the spring there are more birds and wild flowers.  The path was flat and we walked as far as the large white house which was formerly the Bank Ranger’s House.  This is the first section of the walk and as the complete walk to Aghalee is 3 miles there and 3 miles back, we turned at the end of the first section and walked back to the railway station and then a short walk up the road to The Tannery Restaurant where we had something to eat and enjoyed the ‘craic’. We then made our way back to the station and got the train back to Belfast and beyone!
