Cushendun Walk – Friday 9th August

Cushendun Village and Surrounding Area – Approximately 2.5 miles/1.5 hours excluding lunch 

 Date: Friday 9 August 2024

 Meeting Point: The Square in Cushendun adjacent to bus stop at 11.30 a.m.

 Public Transport:

Train – Whitehead 8.45am; Carrickfergus 8.54.m; Greenisland 9.03a.m; Jordanstown 9.06a.m.  Change at Yorkgate for the 9.24a.m train to Londonderry which calls at Mossley West at 9.33a.m.  Arrival time at Ballymena 10.03a.m.

Bus – Transfer at Ballymena to the No 150 bus service to Cushendun leaving Ballymena Bus Station adjacent to Railway Station at 10.30a.m – arrives Cushendun at 11.30a.m.

 By Car – parking is available in the car park either to the right as you go over the bridge in the village or in the main street..

 Walk: around the Village of Cushendun, owned by the National Trust, taking in the coast, river and wooded areas.  The village has an interesting history – all will be revealed on the day!.  All paths are firm and well-trodden.  It is perhaps best described as a good day out rather than a serious walk.

 Lunch: There are two main places for lunch – Mary McBride’s Pub and the Corner House Cafe. Bringing a packed lunch is another option.

 Toilets: Available at Ballymena Railway Station , Cushendun Car park across the road from the beach and the two lunch options.

 Return Journey:  Bus leaves Cushendun 2.35p.m, arrives Ballymena 3.35p.m for the train to Belfast at 4.00p.m.
