Marino to Holywood – Friday 2nd August

Short walk: Approximately four miles and two hours (excluding lunch)

Start: Marino Railway Station at 11am
Public Transport – By train to Lanyon Place, then change to Bangor line.
Whitehead 9.45, Carrickfergus 9.54, Greenisland 10.03, Jordanstown 10.06, Whiteabbey 10.09. Arriving Lanyon Place at 10.22.
Then Bangor train from Lanyon at 10.42.
Return trains from Holywood Train Station to Lanyon Place at 21and 51 minutes past the hour until 14.51 and then at 16 and 51 minutes past the hour from 15.16 until 16.16 when the times change again (for anyone shopping in Holywood).
Anyone travelling by car please note that there is no car parking at Marino station but cars could be parked in Old QuayCourt (a residential development on the left just before the railway bridge on Old Quay Road). The walk ends in Holywood but it is only a short walk or train ride back to Marino.
Route: From Marino Station along ‘Leafy Millionaires Row’ to the North Down Coastal Path and up to the Main Bangor Road. Cross immediately at the lights into Ballymenoch Park and from the top of it across to the Twisel Bridge and down Church Road into Holywood. The walk is mostly flat with a couple of gentle inclines and on good paths/paved quiet roads. The first few hundred yards of the walk and then through the park might be slightly muddy if it rains before then. There is a underpass from Holywood Town Centre back to the train station.
Lunch: Good choice of restaurants/coffee shops to choose from in Holywood – including Home Bird Cafe, Coast, Alexanders & Co, Suitors & Co, The Coffee Yard, and The Bay Tree.
Toilets: In Holywood and at Lanyon Place.
