Some Pictures

All these images were taken with rig 1 - Olympus C2000 2 Megapixel camera, proving that you can get acceptable results with quite basic equipment. Remember that even the larger images are still low resolution 640px x 480px.

This beautiful little village is Brown's Bay, situated at the tip of Islandmagee, a peninsula on the east coast of County Antrim. The photo was taken during a very quick session to try out my new 8ft Rokkaku kite and pendulum suspension. It is not too far from home, so I go there in off peak times to buggy, hence the deserted beach. Browns Bay
Ballintoy Church The Ballintoy Church has been on my 'Sites to Photograph' list for some time. I was in the area on holiday for the last week in August 2004 but the weather was awful. I managed a very quick visit on my way home. As it turned out the visit lasted for even less time than I had planned. The wind was up and I was doubtful that my kite could cope. I launched, waited, put my rig on the line, waited some more. All seemed to be going well so I let out line and took some pictures. I let out some more line and slowly braked the drum to a halt. I was walking back into the wind to position the camera, about 150ft above the graveyard. The line went slack as the cross spreader on the delta snapped.
I was convinced that this grave yard would be the last resting place for my camera. Fortunatly the very wet weather that had prevented me from visiting the site earlier in the week also saved my precious equipment. The reunion with terra firma was on grazing land that was very soft. My camera was not even dirty! The only damage was a set of stripped gears on one servo. Graveyard, Ballintoy
Donaghadee Harbour Donaghadee Harbour. Yes this is a KAP photograph! Its just that the kite is not very high. Actually it is the result of checking that the radio link was working before sending the camera to loftier heights. It's just dumb luck that it produced a useable picture.
I had hoped to get much closer to the lighthouse, but every time I ventured down the pier the wind dropped. I had to beat a hasty retreat to the street at this end of the pier to allow me to walk down wind to keep my camera dry.

On 16 June 2004, I managed to revisit this location. Still not ideal conditions but I did get a bit closer (39K image)

Donaghadee Town Donaghadee is a colourful little coastal town. I think it is worth another visit when the wind is more dependable.
Parterre at Antrim Castle. In the 18th century this formal garden supplied the castle with herbs for cooking and medicinal uses. By 1857 the Parterre had disappeared but it was re-created in the 1990s. Parterre at Antrim Castle
